As an Operational Trainer reporting to our Training Manager, your key responsibility will be to support training needs analysis via the design and delivery of training solutions and induction. Dedicated to a specific business area, for which you’ll develop a comprehensive technical training and customer service demand plan, you’ll align and prioritise our training needs by producing blended learning solutions which maximise technology and customer service platforms.

With the aim to develop One Arco Way, this will entail providing clear guidance on technical training and customer service training, policy and process to drive solutions, which will require:

• a holistic approach to avoid duplication of time and effort 
• consistency of all training plans to deliver value and ROI
• striving for improvement through the analysis of feedback and data
• acting as exemplar to demonstrate how training provides value to the business.

You must have a proven track record within a retail/sales/operational environment, underpinned by significant experience in the design, delivery and facilitation of classroom training solutions, both centrally and nationally. Professionally qualified (CPP/ CIPD), your strong grasp of learning theory, and the TNA process, will match your ability to operate within a changing environment.

An experienced people manager with knowledge of basic psychometric profiling tools and real customer focus, you’re also:

• an excellent project manager
• receptive to change
• a great planner and organiser, able to work on your own initiative
• able to manage effectively at a distance.

You’ll need a full, current UK driving licence as you will frequently be traveling to various sites as part of the role.

Management Development Trainers

As we make major investments in our network to improve the customer experience for 1.5 million passengers every week, we’ll look to you to continually develop the skills of the managers who are leading us through this exciting transformation. 

We’ve opportunities for four Management Development Trainers who will each take responsibility for delivering local training in their region and championing a learning and development lifecycle area for the whole of First Great Western. These high profile roles within our Learning & Development team will involve working with vocational trainers to train a variety of managers in a multi-site environment and also support the soft-skills development of potential future leaders.

A supportive and professional coach with classroom experience, you must be able to address skill gaps, adapt your teaching style to different audiences and keep everyone engaged with your insightful training from start to finish. Resilient, customer focused and results driven, you should also be an experienced trainer with a good understanding of the learning lifecycle and performance and development principles.

We’re looking for talented trainers ideally with a track record of leadership and management development gained in a safety critical environment. An excellent communicator, motivator and planner with a management background yourself, you’ll also need the drive to achieve results and the flexibility to travel across our network and work remotely on your own initiative. You’ll preferably have or be working towards a recognised training qualification.

We operate one of the most complex rail networks in the UK. Our services stretch from London in the east to Brighton and Gatwick in the south, Carmarthen, Pembroke Dock and Penzance in the west and Banbury, Hereford and Worcester in the north.
